As we reflect on this year, our board is thankful for what we were able to accomplish. 2021 was truly a transformative year for SFWPC.
In the wake of the racial justice awakening of 2020, SFWPC recommitted our mission to one that’s focused on intersectional feminism. It was important to us to make a tangible impact from a policy perspective and we launched our first inaugural policy agenda this year. To support that agenda, we took positions on six state bills and two local ordinances aimed at supporting, protecting and empowering women+. We also partnered with Supervisor Melgar on a time study that found that Supervisors who identify as men dominated Board discussions, minimizing the perspective of their colleagues who identify as women.
We also shifted our long standing traditions to center women+ who are the most marginalized, introduced a Pay it Forward membership to invite in members experiencing financial hardship, created spaces to build community, highlighted local women+ leaders and partners in our work, and spoke out on issues that disempower and threaten women+, including violence against women, Asian hate crimes, Black Lives Matter, sexual abuse and threats to reproductive freedom.
As we look ahead to 2022, SFWPC will continue the course we have chartered this year and focus on growing our capacity by team building, and cultivating leadership skills in our Co-Chairs and Committee members. We look forward to hosting programming and networking opportunities, advocating for good policy, and endorsing and supporting candidates who align with our mission, vision and values. If you’re interested in supporting us in our work in the coming year, please join us as a member and/or make a donation today.
A very heartfelt thank you to our outgoing Co-Chairs: Megan Imperial (Policy), Nicole Lindler (Advisory), Urvi Nagrani (PAC), and Lauren Roger (Membership).
Next week, we’ll share more about the 2022 Board who take over on Monday, January 3, 2022.
Happy New Year!
