This past month, our Political Action/Endorsement Committee discussed how the San Francisco Women’s Political Committee would engage in the September 2025 Special Election. After having very tough conversations, we came to a consensus on our recommendation and below we will provide our PAC recommendation
We also invite you to vote from August 27 – August 30, should you be an eligible member. If you have not received an electronic ballot via email by noon on Wednesday August 27 and believe you are an eligible member, please contact our Membership Co-Chairs at membership@sfwpc.org

On September 16, San Franciscans living in District 4 will decide whether to recall Supervisor Joel Engardio in a district-only special election. Recognizing that the ballot will be limited to District 4 residents only, the San Francisco Women’s Political Committee’s (SFWPC) Board has issued a No Recommendation to our membership as they consider weighing in on this issue.
This recall applies solely to District 4. In the past, SFWPC recommendations for recall elections have only been issued for citywide votes, such as the Board of Education recall in 2020, which directly impacted our full membership, instead of solely those in one district.
This is the first recall of a sitting supervisor in San Francisco’s history and is based on strong disagreement regarding a very local issue. Given that the stated reason for a recall was not rooted in behavior that conflicts with SFWPC’s Core Values, and is not city-wide, the Board will not make a recommendation at this time.
When the SFWPC Board considers what to recommend to membership for a ballot or candidate, there are four options:
Endorsement of Issues or Ballot Measures:
Signifies that SFWPC encourages passage of a measure on a local or statewide ballot.
No Recommendation:
The Committee may make a “no recommendation” in its endorsement recommendations, which signifies the candidate or ballot measure did not receive a majority of votes necessary for endorsement or opposition or the PAC chooses not to take a stance on a given race.
No Position:
Signifies that in a membership vote on an elected office or issue, the membership chose not to take a position on the candidate or ballot measure.
No Recommendation does not mean that SFWPC is indifferent to the outcome of this race. We encourage our members in District 4 to learn more about the issue, engage in the process, and cast their vote.
After our most recent Membership Vote, the San Francisco Women’s Political Committee membership upheld the
