SFWPC stands with survivors who have come forward regarding Representative Eric Swalwell. Speaking out and sharing experiences of harm against those in power takes courage, and these survivors deserve to be heard, treated with dignity, and supported — not silenced.
We are committed to creating a political culture rooted in respect, accountability, and safety. No individual, regardless of their title or position, should be above the law.
Statements alone are not enough. Survivors deserve action and transparency, and SFWPC has long advocated for safer political environments and stronger protections for those who come forward.
Given the seriousness and significant documentation of these reports and the public trust at stake, we urge Representative Eric Swalwell to step down from his Congressional seat immediately and withdraw from the race promptly so that California voters have a full and fair opportunity to consider alternative Democratic leadership.
Those accused of wrongdoing deserve their day in court, but a political nomination is not a legal right. The detailed reporting by SF Chronicles and CNN provides more than enough reason to act in the political arena.
Our commitment remains the same today: to stand with survivors, demand accountability, and build a political environment where survivors are supported.
Survivors should not have to face retaliation, intimidation, or attacks for speaking out. Their experiences matter. Those who abuse power need to be held accountable.
To anyone who has experienced harm: we see you, we believe you, and we stand with you.If you are a survivor or have been impacted by sexual violence, resources are available locally through sf.gov/information/san-francisco-gender-based-violence-resources.
