The SFWPC PAC Committee is pleased to recommend Supervisor Matt Haney as our preferred candidate in the AD-17 California Assembly race. This was a challenging decision to make as we appreciate the contributions that both candidates have made to advancing gender equity and intersectional feminism.
The SFWPC PAC Committee was impressed with Supervisor Haney’s track record on issues that complement the work to which SFWPC is dedicated, such as his experience supporting workers and families, his partnership with San Francisco’s Transgender District, and his experience as the first man elected to the Emerge California Board of Directors. We appreciate Supervisor Haney’s candidacy and proven commitment to bring together a broad coalition, including Bilal Mahmood, who SFWPC previously endorsed.
Although we are pleased to recommend Supervisor Haney for the AD-17 Assembly race, we also believe that both candidates have room to grow and improve their records on addressing important issues facing women and gender-diverse people. We look forward to both candidates honoring their commitments to work collaboratively with SFWPC to prioritize diversity and women in staff hiring, championing and following zero-tolerance sexual harassment policies, and partnering with SFWPC on issues facing women and gender-diverse people in the California Legislature.
